I keep my old ISA card becuase the PCI card slows down DOS based games to like 50% of what they run with my ISA card. But in Windows the PCI card goes a little faster and sound better than the ISA card. The main reason your ISA card goes slow is because it is an onboard sound card. I hate onboard sound cards.

Look in Device Manager and see if there is a yellow tag associated with your present sound card or if it is even listed. The problem is that my sound does not work. Device manager is telling me that it cannot find any free IRQ. However, it never told me this before. The sound worked fine, the computer worked fine. When I took the cover off I noted that the wire that runs from the CD-ROM drive to the sound card was off.

Generally
those soundcard backplanes have no space for very many RCA connectors, so they have to use those mechanically crappy 1/8" (3.5mm) stereo plugs for audio connections. Platinum" sound card has one RCA plug in, and one RCA plug out, which would be great -- if you were really into mono!

NO exaggeration - I like audio and for obviously reasons, need a good quality sound card but I can (more so than most others) the differences between sound cards because my equipment can make it apparent.
