Sound card

Hello all, I just installed my copy of Vista today and am to this point very pleased and impressed BUT my sound card driver doesn't want to install so I'm guessing its not supported, figures since I've been holding off upgrading that thing for a few years now. Anyways what would be a goodish sound card that would work with Vista dolby 5.1 sorround is needed.

What is the name of the sound card? Have you checked the manufacturers website for updates or patches to support Vista? Have you tried the XP drivers? (tip: try installing through device manager). -- -- Andre Windows Connected | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta

Hi, I need to upgrade my sound too. I am going with creative. I think they are the standard. Also they seem to be trying to keep up with the drivers. New Egg has a X Fi extreme music 24 bit 7.1 for about 110. You can got to knowledge base at creative, keyword vista and see what drivers they are going to keep updating and which ones they will D/C further resources. Good luck -- Comments, suggestions welcome… AMD 64 3000, MSI k8t Neo,1.5 gig RAM, WD Raptor SATA 74G HD, eVGA 6800 GT, SB live value, Vista beta 2 64 bit/XP Pro 64 bit... New soundcard en route Thank you, TC

Currently I'm using a Hurcules Game Fotismo III 7.1 at the time it was a good amount of extras for the money but now is alittle dated as I have alot of problems with the drivers they release and that was for XP. I will check new egg later today, thanks for the info guys.

Before you get am X-Fi, I recommend visiting Creative's discussion forums at: http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs?region=CLI
After swearing off Creative for years (due to bad experiences I had with their AWE32 driver for NT 4.0), I decided to give them another chance with X-Fi. I'm sorry I did. I thought surely their newest generation of hardware would have appropriately updated (last offical driver release was Nov 2005) and solid drivers (for Windows XP x64 in my case), but I was mistaken.
